One of Those (Good Old) Days

One of Those (Good Old) Days

You know when some days are just “one of those days”—maybe you are tired or you had a rough day at work or things repeatedly kept going wrong? Well motherhood in my experience is best described as every day being “one of those days”.

But, I’m learning (with experience and through ongoing therapy) that even though some things just seem unfair—and I can now say that to myself without getting stuck in a downward spiral—it’s so so important to look for the good, for the little joys.

When my little one smiles at me, I tuck it away.

When we manage a giggle out of her, I tuck it away.

When I catch a sunset, I tuck it away.

When I laugh with my husband and feel that spark as if we are dating again, I tuck it away.

These are the moments and memories that when banked away, I can survive off of when it gets hard, like it always does in this life. And that practice is basically life saving. Do they stop the hard? No, but they lighten the load.

It is hard but it is so good. And I'm so sure that one of these days I'll look back on all the “one of those days” and think of them as "the good old days".
