Born Innocent?
Today's church services both spoke on big picture life reflection. One on Mathew 24 and 1 Thessalonians 4; Paul prepares the church for the day of the Lord to come, and the other on Ecclesiastes 3 and 12; Solomon prods the church to see who we really are apart from the Lord. Both equally convicting.
The combination of messages got me thinking about the legal principle of presumption of innocence: innocent until proven guilty.
Have you ever recognized the falsity of that principle for life?
Not only are we not innocent, we were all born guilty—contrary to the harrowing words of the song ‘Adia’ by Sarah McLachlan (my mom used to call me out when I would sing that song under my breath because it’s beautiful and get’s stuck in my head).
Anyways, if you are like me and you need another angle to set yourself apart from the thinking of the world in order to witness to the world, here’s an idea. --- Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” Genesis 6:3-7 | ESV
