Bread > Cake A Thousand Elsewhere

Bread > Cake

Unpopular opinion: Bread is better than cake.

I found an old bread maker on the side of the road a couple of years ago and my hubbs and I (mostly Dan, tbh) have been making delicious bread with it ever since. IMO there are very few simple pleasures in this life better then fresh bread with butter—I could eat it every day.

If you had to choose between eating bread and cake every day, which would you choose?

In the Bible, we are taught to pray for our daily bread in Matthew 6:9b-13
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

If I’m really looking at my life, I eat my “daily bread” more often than I ask/thank God for providing it and I eat my “daily bread” more often than I READ it too.

We read in Deuteronomy 17:18-20
“And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, approved by the Levitical priests. And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them, that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, either to the right hand or to the left, so that he may continue long in his kingdom, he and his children, in Israel."
The thing is, the Word of God is to be our daily bread not our special occasion cake.

Not our “I need a pick me up” cake.

 Our DAILY bread.

Do you read your Bible every day? --- But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:14-17 | ESV
